A very unusual coloured gem which the beauty of the large facets of the emerald cut helps to show the light violet tinge. Fortunately this is an extremely clean gem as most spinels have dangerous inclusions, with many treated to hide them, and as emerald cuts don’t hide inclusion well, I was pleasantly surprised when I found this beauty!
Clarity – Eye Clean, under 10x magnification 3 tiny tubes, just under the crown facets just off one corner of the table facet. No dangerous or insidious inclusion.
Cut Exceptional
1.63ct Natural Alexandrite, Oval cut from Tanzania, (6.9 x 5.8mm). Exceptionally clean and excellently cut, with an excellent colour change, I’ve taken these photos under a few different types of light and different mix of lights to try and show the amazing colour change this special pretty has. Unfortunately the results don’t really do such a special gem true justice, but they’re not too bad.

This gorgeous set of matching natural Rubies, perfectly cut and clean and perfect for the sides of a ring with a larger gem in the centre, or as highlights in a ring a dress, wedding or eternity ring! My love of real red rubies came from my mum, and these are the classic red rubies she would wear and enjoy. Not glass filled.
The rich red of true rubies is truly gorgeous, set in a simple 4 claw setting, with secure and strong heavy duty screw-on butterflies, safe for everyday wear. Unfortunately most people have sadly experienced the thin, weak, faulty alloy earrings that have flooded jewellery over the last couple of decades, these earring are not made in those factories. Matching sets of gem are always a pleasure to find in fancy cut gems due to the huge range of subtle variance in colours, tones and shapes, this interesting set I thought could be excellent combined with a rich red garnet in a gothic style piece. Smoky grey spinels is the closest you can get to a black gem that sparkles, as of course black is the absence of light.
