Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a popular gem with a rich variety of colours including red, orange, pink, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, brown and Colourless (white) tones. Bi coloured with 2 distinct colours are popular, but rare in clean gems. The most expensive is the Paraiba, a Stunning bright icy blue colour, with quality stones very rare and expensive.
One of my favourite pretties, with amazing sparkle when not commercially cut and clean. With larger stone 2ct or more allowing for stunning statement designs. 4ct or larger gems are rare as prices reflect rarity in the clean gems, with supply erratic.
Tourmaline is doubly refractive with an RI of 1.619-1.650 and a specific gravity of 3.00-3.20.

  • 0.93ct Oval cut Chrome Tourmaline

0.93ct Oval cut Chrome Tourmaline, 6.85mm

I love green, if you do too Chrome Tourmaline is one of the top 2 gems in my book. Such a rich saturated green is simply stunning, when combined with exceptional cutting you have a prefectly pretty strong green.

Clarity – Eye clean under 10x Magnification. One barely inclusion just visible under a 10x loupe.

Perfectly cut in Brisbane (not commercially cut in cheap labour centres)

  • 2 = 2.55ct Pink Trilliant Tourmalines Diamond halo

2 = 2.55ct Fluro Pink Trilliant Tourmalines Diamond halo earrings, 7.5mm

18ct White Gold with 2 = 2.55ct Trilliant cut stunning Natural bright deep fluro Pink Tourmalines and 56 = .68ct G, Round brilliant cut Natural Diamonds.

The unmistakable center piece of these earrings the gorgeous pink Tourmaline I found many years ago from one of my favourite local Brisbane cutters.

I fell in love with the vivid pink Tourmalines when I first saw them and had to have them, though they were expensive, it was clear why as aside from the colour they have their clarity is exceptional.

We only use traditional precious metal alloys and fabricated fitting on our earring. Most people loose earrings due to the cheap, weak/thin and/or faulty metals used in the often all too small/weak butterfly clips used on the back of earrings (to save on costs, not necessarily to sell cheaper, but it allows for unrealistic discounting).

The Tourmalines were discovered in a Brazilian mine that has long since run dry and closed.

Clarity – Clean even under 10x Magnification.

Perfectly cut in Brisbane (not commercially cut in cheap labour centres)

  • 2.33ct Trilliant cut Green Tourmaline

2.33ct Trilliant cut Green Tourmaline, 8.4mm

This picture really doesn’t do justice to this incredibly bright, exceptionally cut (in Brisbane) pretty, with the most amazing brilliance, of this mint Tourmaline, it is one of my favourites. The gem is testament to Trilliant cuts being one of the most interesting and brightest when done perfectly, (However like all cuts, commercial cutting usually lets them down).

Clarity – Eye clean under 10x Magnification. Tiny inclusion just visible under a 10x loupe.

Exceptionally cut in Australia (not commercially cut in cheap labour centres)

  • 2=2.47ct Green Tourmaline Garnet E-Rings

2=2.47ct Green Tourmaline Carre cut, 5.9 – 6mm & 32 = 1.93ct square cut Orange yellow Spessartite Garnet Halo Earring

A very versatile earring as the lovely “halo’s” can easily be removed to wear as just an amazing stud earring all handmade in our workshop. For loves of the understated step cuts, a special cut that is often overlooked by most jewellers. But the lapidarist in me really appreciates the larger flashes in step cut gems, and the jeweller in me loves the contrast when mixed with the varieties of the brilliant cut as the Spessartite Garnets highlights demonstrates.

Clarity – All the Tourmaline and Spessartite garnets are Eye Clean.

    Cut – Exceptional in Germany.

  • 5.18ct Free form buff top Pink Tourmaline

5.18ct Free form buff top Pink Tourmaline, 13 x 9.2mm

I loved this unique free form buff top with an unusual faceted pavilion (rear) the moment I saw it, (about 10 years ago), and had to have it in my collect. Of course You have to admire the Bright, strong pink of the natural Tourmaline and the cutting creates an interesting special mix of small and larger brilliant sparkles, with a distinctive curved look to the edges of many larger facets, after all facets are usually flat and straight.

Sadly the picture doesn’t show this true beauty of this pretty. Cut by one of my favourite local cutters, I really admire how exceptional cutters experiment, and even after all my years they surprise you with unique treasure like this, that you practically never see. This gem is from an old Brazilian mine that many years ago produced some truly amazing in its rather brief life.

Clarity – Perfectly clean to the naked eye, and only small inclusions with a 10x hand lens (if you know how to use one properly).

Cut – Exceptional in by a master cutter.

  • 5.30ct Blue Tourmaline Diamonds = .70ct ring

    5.30ct Blue Tourmaline 12.75 x 8.1mm & Total = .70ct F, VS2 Natural Diamonds 18ct White gold ring

Blue maybe rare in Tourmaline, they have some of the prettiest blue tones, as this very amazing gem demonstrates. The bright but rich colour of such a feature gem is exceptionally rare to come by in a perfectly cut emerald cut, and with such exceptionally clarity as of course this cut doesn’t hide inclusions. Such a gorgeous gems is contrasted perfectly with a lovely mix of round brilliant and pear cut Diamond highlights that nicely finishes and sets the whole piece off.

Clarity – Eye clean under 10x Magnification. One Tiny inclusion just visible under a 10x loupe.

Cut – Exceptional in by a master cutter.

  • 6.56ct Green Emerald cut Tourmaline

    6.56ct Green – Blue Green Emerald cut Tourmaline 14.23 x 8.85mm

Showing a very interesting colour range that only Tourmaline can do so well. They strong green colour ranges from slight yellow green to slight blue green, unfortunately the picture doesn’t really do the gem justice. We try our best to show the real beauty of our colours, but sometimes the cameras just don’t capture them right. As you may know I love green, with a weakness for the rarer stronger colours, and this little, (well not so little), beauty is truly impressive. I collected special gem about 10 years ago, it came from a special Brazilian mine that produced some truly amazing gems in its brief time.

Clarity – Eye clean under 10x Magnification. One Tiny inclusion just visible under a 10x loupe.

    Cut – Exceptional in Germany.

  • 8.29ct Round cut strong Pink Tourmaline

8.29ct Round cut strong Pink Tourmaline, 13.9mm

Wow, a very special colour, so clean with a very special sparkle, a queen amongst gems! The first time I saw this gem I fell in love. This in a dream stone for any exceptional jeweller, and a privilege to make into one of those rare pieces, that you would forever after be proud to have created. Collect about 10 years ago this treasure is from mine in Brazil hat has been closed for many years now. Due to the natural shape of gem crystals, the vast majority don’t lend themselves to cutting round gems, combined with the size of this beauty and that such strong colours are so rare these days, makes this beauty one in millions!

Clarity – Clarity – Eye clean under 10x Magnification. 2 small inclusions just visible under a 10x loupe.

    Cut – Exceptional in Germany.
